The campaign organizes the steps and deadlines in plain language. The Chicago Board of Elections and Illinois State Board of Elections remain the final sources for registration, locations, ballots, and deadlines.

2026 election timeline

Dates to put on your calendar

Locations and daily hours can change. Confirm those details on the linked Chicago election pages before traveling.

Registration

October 6 and October 18

Paper registration closes October 6. Illinois online registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on October 18. Same Day Registration remains available beginning October 7.

Early voting

October 1 through November 2

Downtown early voting is expected to begin October 1, subject to change. Voting in all 50 wards begins October 19 and continues through November 2. Any Chicago voter may use any Chicago early voting site.

Vote by mail

Apply by October 29

Applications opened August 5. Ballot mailing begins September 24. The Chicago Board of Elections must receive applications by October 29.

Return a mail ballot

Postmark by November 3

Mail ballots must be postmarked by November 3 and received by November 17. A voter may also use an official secured drop box with the signed and sealed return envelope.

Voting questions

How do I confirm whether my address is in District 5B?

Use the official CPS board member map and enter your home address. The campaign website does not replace the official address lookup.

Where can I see my sample ballot or mail ballot status?

Use Chicago’s Your Voter Information page. The lookup provides a sample ballot when available and shows vote by mail application and counted ballot status.

Can someone help me read or mark my ballot?

Yes. Chicago provides accessibility and language assistance. A voter may also bring an interpreter or trusted helper who is not the voter’s employer or union representative.

Registration after the deadline

You can still register and vote in person after online registration closes

Same Day Registration is available at Chicago early voting sites and at the 51 Election Day vote centers. Bring two forms of identification. At least one must show your current address.
